General Characteristics
African Mahogany closely resembles Genuine Mahogany in its color and workability. However, the African species does tend to have a prominence of ribbon-figure or “ribbon stripe”.
African Mahogany is a medium reddish brown color. It is much lighter in color than most expect it to be. However, it dramatically darkens with age.
Typical Applications
Ribbon stripe African Mahogany is very attractive in its appearance and is a nice choice for cabinetry and furniture.
It is also a premier choice among boatbuilders, not for its beauty, but for the strength and stability it offers.
African Mahogany is also used extensively in millwork applications such as entry units and window sashes.
