General Characteristics
Mixed Grain and Quarter Sawn.
Sapele closely resembles African Mahogany in appearance; however, it is harder and heavier.
The species has an interlocking grain that is often wavy in appearance.
Sapele is a medium reddish brown color with a medium texture, carrying the typical Mahogany look and color.
Typical Applications
Sapele finishes well and machines relatively well. Due to this, it is a popular choice for furniture, cabinets, store fixtures, and boats.
Sapele is often utilized as a substitute for the sometimes difficult-to-find and expensive Genuine Mahogany and Spanish Cedar.
